To the Delegates: A Victory for the Grassroots and the Republican Way

Duane Kearsley

The dust has settled on the Weber County Republican Convention, and the message from our delegates couldn’t be clearer: The grassroots are alive, well, and ready for leadership that listens.

First and foremost, I want to extend a sincere and humble thank you to every Republican delegate who spent their time vetting candidates, asking the tough questions, and casting their vote. Being a delegate is the heartbeat of our party. You are the essential “filter” that ensures our leaders are chosen by their conservative principles and merit, not just by the size of their marketing budget.

Protecting the Caucus-Convention System

I am honored to announce that we secured 58.52% of the vote for County Commissioner Seat A. While we were just a hair’s breadth away from the 60% threshold required to secure the nomination outright, this majority win is a resounding mandate from the party faithful.

More importantly, this was a victory for the Caucus-Convention system. In this race, we faced “signature candidates”—those who chose to bypass the grassroots vetting process by paying to gather signatures. The delegates sent a powerful message by voting those candidates out of the convention.

In the Republican Party, we believe that a seat on the County Commission should be earned in living rooms and community centers through face-to-face accountability, not bought on a sidewalk. By choosing the caucus route exclusively, I committed to being held accountable by you, the backbone of our party.

One Clear Voice for the Party

While I am thrilled to advance to the primary, this result highlights a critical conversation for our party’s future. Under current rules, my 58.52% majority means we head to a multi-candidate primary.

I believe that when the convention speaks with a clear majority, the Republican Party is best served by a single representative. Having one clear caucus-backed candidate allows us to define our platform more sharply and prevents our message from being diluted. When the vote is split in a primary, it can often muddy the waters of what the delegates actually stood for. As we move forward, I will continue to advocate for the “Will of the Caucus” as the true north for our party’s identity.

Congratulations to Jon Beesley

I also want to take a moment to congratulate Jon Beesley for his victory in the Caucus vote for County Commissioner Seat B. Jon has shown a consistent dedication to the people of Weber County and the Republican platform. I look forward to the prospect of working alongside a fellow leader who respects the grassroots process.

The Mission Ahead

The convention was the first hill; the primary is the mountain. To my 58.52%—and to those who supported other caucus candidates—I am asking you to stand with me. We have the momentum, we have the truth, and now we have the mandate.

We are moving into “Go Time.” Let’s show the county that the Republican Party is united, principled, and ready to lead Weber County toward a transparent and prosperous future.

Onward to the Primary!
